The start of the challenge will be from Heaton Manor, School, Newton Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE7 7DP from 9.00 am.
The start line will be clearly marked with sail flags and signs.
Registration: Registration will be open from 7:30am on the Saturday morning. It is at registration that you will be reunited with your bike if you have booked our Newcastle2London transfer service. We recommend that you register for the challenge at least 45 minutes before your start time.
Facilities: At the start line you will be able to get yourself prepared for the challenge - there will be hot drinks and snacks as well as a food and drink vendor for your friends and family to purchase from. There will be bike mechanics if you need your bike to be looked at before the start of the challenge but we advise that you have it serviced before the challenge.
Drop off: There is a limited amount of parking available at the start so we suggest that you get dropped off. To be dropped off please go the following address: Heaton Manor School, Jesmond Park W, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE7 7DP.
Trains & tube: Trains are the easiest way to get to Newcastle. However if travelling from London or the South, due to the distance and reliability, we recommend that your arrive in Newcastle on the Friday evening and check into a hotel.
Hotels that we would suggest you stay in would be:
Holiday Inn, Newcastle NE2 1PR - The holiday Inn is based 1.3 miles from Newcastle city centre and 1.3 miles from the start of the challenge with rooms starting at £64.
Newcastle Central, Travel lodge, NE1 2NH - The travel lodge is based 0.8 miles from Newcastle city centre and 2.6 miles from the start of the challenge with rooms starting at £49.
To get to the start from Newcastle Station takes a 20 minute cycle or 35 minutes via bus and Metro, but please be aware if you are bringing your bike to the start you will not be allowed to take it on public transport. Of course there’s the option to take a taxi from Newcastle Station.
By Air: If you are wanting to fly to Newcastle from London you can fly direct from London Heathrow. Flights start from £64 one way, there may be additional bag fees. CLICK HERE to find out more. Newcastle airport is 16 miles from the start and 7.9 miles from Newcastle Centre.
Transporting your bike: If you are travelling by either train or plane and will find it difficult to transport your bike please remember our optional bike transfer which will take your bike from London to the start of the challenge. Please book this service by using the form on the book your optional extras page.
Parking: There is a limited amount of parking at the start of the challenge. More information about parking and leaving your car at the start throughout the duration of the challenge will be realeased on 11 July.
The finish of the challenge is at Smithfields Market, London, EC1A 9PQ. Just a short distance from Moorgate / Liverpool Street / and Blackfriars Stations. From London Kings Cross you can get a direct train back to Newcastle. It takes around 2hrs 40 mins.
Facilities: At the finish line you will be able to rest after the challenge - there will be hot drinks and snacks as and you will be able to have a well desevered meal at the nearby St Barts Brewery.
Pick up:There is a large underground car park, Smithfield Car Park, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 9DS which is about a 3 minute walk from the market if friends / family are meeting you at the finish.
Trains & tube: If you have not booked a bus transfer back to Newcastle. You can go via tube to main train line stations such as Kings Cross and Liverpool Street. You will be allowed to take your bike on the tube at this time as it will be off peak (Sunday).
Coach : If you have booked a bus transfer back to Newcastle this will be departing at various times from Smithfield Market. The first coach will be departing at approximately 10:00am and the last coach will be departing at 16:00.
Parking: There is a large underground pay and display car park, Smithfield Car Park, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 9DS about a 3 minute walk from the market.
